I was messing around the other day when I came across something that I found interesting. We all know that the serve in pickleball may not be the most important shot, but it's definitely a shot that shouldn't be ignored. I like to experiment with different serves and what I have for you is the results from this experimentation.

This serve may not look like much, but believe me, when you start doing this for the first time, you'll be surprised at the results.

Loosen hand to adjust grip and change toward a BACKHAND just before ball contact. This will allow you to dig under the ball when you are stretched wide to your forehand and hit a sharp angle kitchen crosscourt with a soft, flexion snap of your wrist and little arm movement. When the same type of ball goes to your backhand, adjust the grip to a FOREHAND to allow you to dig under the ball and redirect a heavy, crosscourt kitchen shot. The amount of grip change will be determined by how a ball you are trying to dig up and the amount of redirection of the ball you are needing to do.
