Next year, the Lehigh Valley will be home to one of the largest pickleball clubs on the East Coast, as St. Luke’s University Health Network has completed renovations on the former Parkland Pickleball Club in Allentown as of December. The soft launch of the expanded multi-sport arena, now known as St. Luke’s SportsPLex and Pickleball Lehigh Valley, is scheduled to run through January 2.
Situated at 4636 Crackersport Road, the extensive complex spans approximately 75,000 square feet. The renovated pickleball court complex, which includes 12 "NBA-quality" hardwood pickleball courts and 12 designated hardcourt pickleball courts, is housed within six 8,000-square-foot barrels or bays. Additionally, an event center, also equipped for pickleball, is featured within the complex.
Notably, there is a 3-acre, 22-court outdoor pickleball field, constructed by the Amish, providing ample space for festivals and substantial parking both on and off-site for large national, regional, and local tournaments. The venue is complemented by a generous sports-themed event center and a state-of-the-art player lounge, positioning it as the premier pickleball destination in the Northeast, according to Robert Martin, chief strategy officer for St. Luke’s.
Mary Jo Cambridge, director of operations for Pickleball Lehigh Valley, expressed excitement about the new facility, stating, "This is the place for you to find high-quality drilling, open-play, and tournament competitions."
In alignment with St. Luke’s commitment to the health and well-being of the community, the SportsPLex offers indoor space for both team and individual training, further enhancing its role as a comprehensive sports destination. Martin emphasized the importance of innovation and offering a new experience for the community, stating, "It’s important for St. Luke’s, charged with the health and well-being of the people of this region, to always be willing to try something new, to take a chance and to offer our friends and neighbors a whole new experience.
